REGISTRATION

Q: When I try to register I get the following message: "Your username may only consist of the letters A-Z and/or the digits 0-9 and must not contain any spaces."

A: The reason is that your username contains either a space or a symbol/character which is not part of the general set of alphanumeric characters (the Latin letters A-Z and Arabic digits 0-9). You cannot for example use symbols such as é, ü or Ф. Please therefore remove the space or the symbol and try signing up again. If the problem persists, please contact us at support@fotoalbum.eu specifying your desired username and we shall be happy to help you.

Q: How can I use my Facebook account to register a new account on Fotoalbum?

A: Using your Facebook account to register an account makes logging into Fotoalbum even easier - when you're logged into Facebook you simply click 'login via facebook' and you are logged into Fotoalbum!

Start by clicking the 'sign up via facebook' link on the front page of Fotoalbum. Then enter your email and password for your Facebook account and click 'Create'. On the next screen click 'Allow' (thereby telling Facebook that you want to proceed with the registration) and choose a unique Fotoalbum username and password. Even though you from now on only need your Facebook details to login, you still have to create a unique Fotoalbum URL (username) and a password allowing you to make changes to your settings. Finally, click 'Sign Up' and begin building your very own online fotoalbum!

Q: I would like to change my password / email address entered at the time of registration.

A: You can change your password and email address under the section "My settings" on Fotoalbum.eu.

LOGIN

Q: I have forgotten my password.

A: You can request a password reminder by clicking on the "Forgot Password" link under the login button. A new password will be sent to you in an email.

Q: I requested a password reminder, but I never got it.

A: Please see the FAQ section on 'Emails from Fotoalbum.eu.

Q: I forgot my user name.

A: Try logging in with your registered email address instead. If you cannot remember which email address you used when you registered an account on Fotoalbum then please contact us at support@fotoalbum.eu.

Q: How can I use my Facebook account to log into Fotoalbum?

A: If you have already signed up on Fotoalbum using your Facebook account, then you simply click 'login via facebook' and you're ready to go.

If you have an existing account on Fotoalbum and want to link it to your Facebook account for a faster login (and fewer usernames and passwords to remember) then start by clicking the link 'login via facebook' on the front page of Fotoalbum. Proceed by entering your email and password for your Facebook account and click 'Login'. On the next screen click 'Allow' (thereby telling Facebook that you agree to link your accounts) and enter you Fotoalbum username and password. And that's it - your accounts are now linked!

ALBUMS

Q: How can I upload more than one photo at a time?

A: After pressing the 'Upload' button, hold down Ctrl or Shift to select several photos or drag a box around the photos you need. Please note that if you do not have Flash installed on your computer then you can only upload one image at a time. You can change between the single uploader and the multi uploader (Flash required) by pressing the '!' button beneath the tips in the uploader section. If your internet connection is slow, you should avoid uploading too many pictures at the same time.

Q: I can't upload photos.

A: Make sure you are not trying to upload an image that is larger than 10mb (limit for free members) or 20mb (limit for premium members). Please also make sure that the file format is either jpeg, jpg, gif or png. If your file is not a jpeg, jpg, gif or a png, then use appropriate software to convert the files. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us at support@fotoalbum.eu and we will be happy to help you.

Q: Which file formats does Fotoalbum.eu support?

A: Fotoalbum.eu supports the following extensions: jpeg, jpg, gif, and png.

Q: How can I change the order of the photos in an album?

A: You can change the order of photos in an album by using your mouse to drag and drop them wherever you like. You can also move an image to another page in an album by clicking on the move buttons beneath each image.

Q: How can I move a photo to another album?

A: When in overview mode inside an album, press the "Move" button underneath the photo you wish to move and select the alternative album you wish to move it to.

Q: How do I change the name of a photo or an album?

A: Point at the existing name of the photo or album, click on it and you will get an option to create a new name.

Q: Can I choose which photo will appear as the main thumbnail of the album in the "My Albums" section?

A: The photo that comes first in an album is automatically selected to be shown as the main thumbnail. You can change this photo by using the drag and drop function to change the order of the images in your album.

Q: How can I share my albums with friends and family?

A: A small function bar in the top right hand corner of Fotoalbum displays all the different ways you can share your images with other people. Click on any of the buttons to share your images on various social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace or invite people via email to visit your page on Fotoalbum by clicking the email link. Alternatively, you can copy the URL of your page (e.g. http://www.fotoalbum.eu/maria) and insert it in an email, on a blog or anywhere you like.

Q: How can visitors upload their own images into my account?

A: Once you are a premium member, collecting images of from your friends is easy. Start by inviting your friends to visit your page on Fotoalbum. Visitors to your account will be able to see a button below the main profile image called 'Upload pictures' (if you are logged in, you cannot see this button). To upload images they simply need to click the button, insert their name and email address and select the images they would like to share with you. And that's it - it's super easy and requires no previous experience with online image sharing!

Once the upload is complete you'll receive an email informing you that your friend has uploaded content on your account. It is now up to you to review the images before they are published on your page (your friend's album will be 'blinded', meaning only you can see it, until you have reviewed them). To make the images visible to your visitors simply click the 'Public' button next to the album title on the 'My albums' page. Please note, that you have to be a premium member to enable guest upload.

Q: How can I download images from my Fotoalbum account?

A: There are two ways to download images from your account: you can either download a single image by right clicking on it and saving it to your desktop, or you can download an entire album in the download section on the 'My settings' page. Please note, that in order to download whole albums you need to be a premium member.

Q: Can visitors download images from my account?

A: A visitor can download an image from Fotoalbum by copying the image to their desktop. The downloaded image will however only be a small and compressed version of the original.

Q: What are visitor statistics?

A: Enabling visitor statistics is a great way of keeping track of your visitors. With visitor statistics you can always see how many unique visitors you have had and how many times each image has been viewed. To enable visitor statistics you need to upgrade to a premium membership.

Q: How can I add a text file to an album?

A: Start by creating a new album or open an existing one. Once inside the album, click on the link "(Add gallery description or a standalone text)". Then simply copy the text from your text document and paste it into the text box. You can even do text formatting like making word or sentences bold or italicized by inserting BBCode. Here is a list of examples:

You can also insert a link to another webpage in your text by using this code: [url]http://example.org[/url] (just swap example.org with the other website's URL).

BBCode can be used in your welcome message on the 'My albums' page and to text pieces as described above, but not in guestbook or comments replies.

Q: Why can I not see or upload any images to my account?

A: The reason why you cannot see or upload images, might be that you have accidentally chosen to block images on Fotoalbum.eu in your browser. In order to unblock images on Fotoalbum.eu, you need to find the “Preferences” section in your browser (Internet Explorer, Fire fox, Opera, Safari) and then choose “Content” and “Load images automatically”. Please note that you must be on Fotoalbum.eu when you make this change. Please also be aware that the set up might vary between the different browsers (the above description is correct in Firefox). If you still cannot see/upload any images, then please write to us at support@fotoalbum.eu stating your username and the details of any error messages.

PRIVACY

Q: Who can see my albums?

A: Our policy is to host personal albums that our users share with people of their own choice. Therefore, only users who know your exact username or the URL to your albums can view your images - for example, friends and family you invite to visit your account.

Q: Can I protect my albums with a password?

A: Yes. Go to the "My settings" section and create a password. Viewers will need to request and receive the password from you before they can access your albums.

Q: Can I view other members' images?

A: Yes. But you need to know their exact username or the URL to their page.

Q: What is the difference between 'Private' and 'Public'?

A: 'Private' means that only you can see the album and the images within it. 'Public' means that visitors to your account will also be able to see them. If you press the 'Private' button next to an album on the 'My albums' page, the album will be 'blinded', meaning only you can see it. It will remain blinded until you press the 'Public' button.

SPACE

Q: How many photos can I have in one album?

A: As a free member you can have a maximum of 40 images in an album. As a premium member you can enjoy an unlimited number of images in an album. Go wild!

Q: How many albums can I have in my profile?

A: As a free member you can have a maximum of 25 album. As a premium member you can have as many albums as you like. Don't believe us? Try it out!

Q: What is the maximum size of a photo I can upload?

A: You can upload a photo with a maximum size of 10mb as a free member and 20mb as a premium member.

Q: Why are some of my images/albums blocked?

A: As a free member you can have a maximum of 25 albums, containing a maximum of 40 images each. Any images exceeding this amount will not be visible to yourself or your visitors. To unblock these images/albums you need to sign up to a premium membership.

FOLLOWING

Q: What is following?

A: Following is a great way to keep updated with your friends and family's new image uploads. When you follow another member you receive an email each time they upload new images to their account. That way, you never miss out! Other members can also follow your uploads. This means they will be sent an email each time you upload images to your account. Note: Only one notification email will be dispatched in a 24-hour period after uploading new images.

Q: How do I follow another member?

A: Click on the 'Follow' link in the upper right hand corner of the page when you visit another member's account. Then login or register as a new member in the pop-up box.

Q: How do I stop following another member?

A: To stop following another member you simply go to the 'My settings' page on your account. In the 'I am following' section you will see a list all the members you are currently following. Simply click on the grey delete button next to the member you wish to stop following.

Q: How do other people follow me?

A: Firstly, you need to invite your friends to visit your Fotoalbum by sending them a 'share' email. Once your guests are visiting your account, they can click on the 'Follow' link in the upper right hand corner of the page. Then they simply either login or register as a new member in the pop-up box. You now have a fan!

Q: Where can I see my followers?

A: In the 'My followers' section on the 'My settings' page.

Q: How can I remove a follower?

A: Simply go to the 'My settings' page on your account and navigate to the 'My followers' section. Here you will see a list all the members that are currently following you. Just click on the grey delete button next to the member you wish to delete.

Tip: If you wish to prevent people from visiting your account and following you, then please activate a visitor password. This can be done on the 'My settings' page.

COMMENT NOTIFICATION

Q: How will I know when a visitor comments on my images?

A: When a visitor comments on your images you will receive a comment notification email to your registered email address.

Q: How do I stop receiving comment notifications?

A: Go to the 'My settings' page and turn off email alerts in the 'Comment notification' section.

Q: Why am I not receiving comment notifications?

A: Please see the FAQ section on 'Emails from Fotoalbum.eu'.

PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP

Q: How can I pay for my premium membership?

A: You can purchase a premium membership with either a PayPal account or with a credit card. If you do not have a PayPal account or do not wish to register one, please uncheck the auto renewal box on the premium subscription page. This will allow you to make a one-off payment with your credit card. Please be aware, that although you do not login, PayPal will still handle the payment.

Q: Why does PayPal ask me to login to PayPal when I want to pay with a credit card?

A: You can pay with a credit card both with and without logging into PayPal. If you wish to pay by credit card without registering or logging into PayPal simply uncheck the auto renewal box on the premium subscription page. The payment will still be handled by PayPal, but you will not need to login.

Q: Is it safe to make a payment at Fotoalbum.eu?

A: Yes! All our payments are handled by PayPal, which is one of the leading and safest online payment operators in the world. Your payment information is only collected and stored while you are on the PayPal site.

Q: There was a problem with my payment. What do I do?

A: All payments on Fotoalbum.eu are handled by Paypal.com. Please contact PayPal directly at http://paypal.com/help to resolve any payment issues.

Q: How can I see my payment history?

A: All payment history is listed in the 'My membership' section on the 'My settings' page.

Q: How do I extend my premium membership?

A: If you do not have auto renewal activated and you wish to extend your premium membership, please go to the 'Your membership' section on the 'My settings' page and click on the 'extend' link. You will be redirected to the premium page where you can select the appropriate subscription package. This new subscription will commence and payment processed once your current subscription has expired.

Q: Why am I not registered for a premium membership when I have just paid for one?

A: There could be a slight delay in upgrading your account after you have completed your transaction with PayPal. If it has been more than 24 hours then please contact support@fotoalbum.eu, from your registered email address.

Q: What is automatic renewal?

A: By registering for auto renewal you ensure that your premium membership is automatically renewed at the end of your current subscription period. You will be subscribed to the same subscription package (1, 6 or 12 months) and charged automatically at the start of each new subscription period.

Q: How do I cancel automatic renewal?

A: You can cancel automatic renewal on your PayPal account by viewing your payment details for the associated payment. Either login to Paypal.com or press the 'cancel' link in the 'Your membership' section on the 'My settings' page.

Q: What happens when my premium membership runs out?

A: You will receive two expiration notices from Fotoalbum.eu approximately one week and 24 hours prior to the expiration date of your premium membership. If you choose not to renew your premium membership then your membership will automatically revert to a free membership. This means you will be subject to the limits of a free account. Please see the FAQ section 'Space' for more information on our free memberships.

Q: How can I cancel my premium membership?

A: You cannot cancel a premium membership, but you can cancel the automatic renewal by either logging into Paypal.com or pressing the 'cancel' link in the 'Your membership' section on the 'My settings' page. This will ensure that your membership is not renewed and you will simply revert back to a free membership at the end of the subscription period. Please be aware, that once you have purchased a subscription we cannot offer any refund.

EMAILS FROM FOTOALBUM.EU

Q: Why am I not receiving: password reminders/ comment notifications/ new follower notifications/ newsletters?

A: There could be several reasons why you are not receiving emails from Fotoalbum.eu. Firstly, make sure your preferred email alerts are activated on the 'My settings' page (only applicable to comment notifications and newsletters). Secondly, make sure you have a valid email address registered on your account. You can find your registered email address on the 'My settings page'. Thirdly, make sure your email provider is not forwarding correspondence from Fotoalbum.eu to your email spam/junk box. To prevent Fotoalbum emails being identified as spam, you need to add fotoalbum@fotoalbum.eu to your address book. Alternatively, open your spam/junk folder, select the Fotoalbum email and select it as 'not spam/junk'.
