Working with Alberta Environment, and Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health & Wellness have issued an air quality health advisory for Alberta. Air quality particularly in Edmonton is very poor. The smoke is currently moving towards Red Deer and Cold Lake regions. Our smoke forecasting system is predicting this condition to continue over the next few days.

People are encouraged to be aware of their own and their family's health. Everyone is encouraged to be aware of any respiratory and cardiac symptoms and limit their strenuous physical activities outdoors. Other helpful hints include:
Closing all windows and doors at home to reduce smoke coming into the home.
Stay indoors as much as possible. Reduce levels of physical activity as necessary to decrease the inhalation of airborne pollutants.
Consider sheltering indoors with windows closed and air intakes closed.
Operate air conditioning (while sheltering indoors) using the recirculation mode unless the air conditioner is equipped with a pleated air filter or a High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) filter.
If you or family members are experiencing symptoms consider calling Health Link Alberta to speak to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 780-408-LINK (5465) or, outside the local calling area, toll-free 1-866-408-LINK.
